Imphal: Besides announcing the ‘Chief Minister’s Health for All’ scheme for the people of Manipur and launching ‘Elderline’ toll-free helpline number for senior citizens, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today led a mass cleanliness drive and distributed gifts and sweetmeats to destitute children and sanitation workers, patients and attendants of JNIMS Hospital to mark the 71st birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
In the early morning, N. Biren Singh reached Khwairamband Shamu Makhong and took part in the mass cleanliness drive jointly organised by Imphal Municipal Corporation, Imphal West and Imphal East District Police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur and Manipur Fire Service. Similar cleanliness drives were also organised at Manipur Secretariat, Government Departments and district offices.

Speaking at the occasion, N. Biren Singh described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a living legend, who has a vision and firm determination to uplift the needy and weaker sections of the society. Prime Minister’s gifts to Manipur like ILPS, National Sports University, oxygen plants, free vaccines and free ration during COVID-19 pandemic would be remembered forever, he said while adding that his noble schemes like Ayushman Bharat, PM Kishan and other schemes had benefitted crores of people.

N. Biren Singh stated that ‘Health for All’ is the vision of Narendra Modi. In line with this vision, the State Government had introduced the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang Scheme (CMHT) under which 4.19 lakh beneficiaries had been enrolled as on August 31, 2021, he added.
Stating that the objective of the scheme is to conduct primary health check-ups for all the citizens of Manipur, N. Biren Singh informed that the primary focus would be early identification and diagnosis of 10 diseases i.e. hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, Kidney ailments, chronic respiratory disease like COPD, mental health problems, TB and three common cancers i.e. oral, breast and cervical. He said that the broad components are detection, treatment and follow-up.

The beneficiaries would be given medicines at their doorsteps, he said and added that the scheme would especially benefit elderly patients above 60 years, bed-ridden patients and non-communicable disease (NCD) patients, who are not on regular follow-up or who have not visited health centres due to financial or physical problems.
Regarding ‘Elderline’, the Chief Minister said that it is a helpline for senior citizens with a toll-free number – 14567, where they may seek help if they are bothered or harassed by anybody. He added that they may also seek assistance regarding old-age pension, healthcare, Maintenance Act, legal assistance, mental health issues, homeless, etc. The helpline, which would be run jointly by the State Social Welfare Department, NISD and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India would remain active from 8 am to 8 pm daily, the Chief Minister informed.

Later, N. Biren Singh went to Children Home, Dewlahland and distributed gifts and sweetmeats to the residents. He also went to JNIMS and distributed sweetmeats to patients, sanitation workers and attendants of the hospital to mark the birthday celebration of Narendra Modi.
