CM dedicates second phase of Ganga Water Supply Scheme

Nawada: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday dedicated the second phase of ‘Ganga Water Supply Scheme’, part of the ambitious ‘Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali’ campaign for supplying Ganga water to every household in Nawada.


While dedicating the scheme here at Paura villag, the chief minister also inaugurated a water pump house with storage capacity of 3.6 crore litre clear water. Kumar inspected the water treatment plant and other equipment installed there.


With this Ganga water was being transported to the water treatment plant at Paura from Rajgir through 20 km long pipeline. BUDCO has made arrangements to supply water in every household.

BUDCO has constructed 4 water tanks in Nawada through which Ganga water would be supplied to 13,965 households in 17 wards. Over 135 litres of water per person would be supplied everyday. Apart from this the water would also be supplied to the educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, government offices and others in Nawada.


To maintain the electricity supply, a separate electricity substation has been set up near the water treatment plant at Paura.


Under Ganga Water Supply Scheme the surplus water of river Ganga was being lifted to the water-stressed cities and used as drinking water. Under the scheme the flood water of River Ganga was being supplied as drinking water in the important cities of South Bihar, Rajgir, Gaya, Bodhgaya and Nawada.


The first phase of the scheme was dedicated in Rajgir and Gaya-Bodhagaya. For last one year, Ganga water has been supplied uninterrupted to every house in the form of pure drinking water in 8031 houses in Rajgir, 6000 in Bodh Gaya and 75000 houses in Gaya.


Apart from this, around two crore devotees visiting Rajgir Malmas fare and more than 15 lakh devotees visiting the Pitripaksha at Gaya this year used Ganga water, he said.


Ground water dependency of these towns have ended with the execution of Ganga water supply scheme implemented by the Water Resources Department which bagged CBIP award 2022.


For Ganga Water Supply Scheme, an intake well-cum-pump house was constructed on the banks of the Ganga river at Hathidah in Mokama block of Patna district. The surplus water of river Ganga, which used to go waste every year during the monsoon season, was lifted and supplied through a 151 km long pipeline to the water-stressed Rajgir, Gaya and BodhGaya.


After dedicating the second phase the chief minister also inspected Motnaje water treatment plant and took detail of its functioning.
