Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Wednesday inspected the progress of the ongoing construction of a monolith inside the premises of Saheed Minar, Bir Tikendrajit Park, here.

Speaking to media persons, N. Biren Singh said the State Cabinet approved the construction of the monolith in memory of those exiled martyrs who fought valiantly against the mighty British forces. The Chief Minister further informed that the monolith would be dedicated to those unsung heroes of Manipur who were exiled in Andaman and Nicobar Islands (popularly known as Kalapani Cellular Jail) after the Anglo-Manipur War 1891.
