Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, popularly known as May Day which falls on May 1.
“International Worker’s Day is observed to honour the struggles and gains made by workers and labourers. It was on this day in the year 1886 that the labour class came together and revolted against the unjust system. They raised their voices for paid leaves, good wages and proper breaks. They day also symbolizes the victory of the working class for their struggle to get 8-hour work day,” said the Chief Minister.
Biren further said that owing to the hardship faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government has also taken several measures for labour welfare and employment generation of migrant workers hailing from our state.
“On this occasion, let us pledge ourselves to uphold and strengthen the spirit of the working-class and acknowledge their contribution to the country’s progress,” Biren added.
