CM Biren allocates portfolios; Dr Ranjan gets IPR, Basanta given Education

The Education Department, which was earlier allocated to former Speaker Khemchand, has been allotted to Thounaojam Basanta Singh along with the Law and Legislative Affairs Department.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh Friday distributed portfolios to the six ministers who were inducted into the Council of Ministers on April 16. 

The Biren government also made a minor change in the allocation of portfolios which was given to minister Yumnam Khemchand. 

According to a cabinet allocation notification by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, the Education Department, which was earlier allocated to former Speaker Khemchand, has been allotted to Thounaojam Basanta Singh along with the Law and Legislative Affairs Department.

With this change, Minister Y Khemchand now holds the charge of the departments of MAHUD and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, a former advisor (health) to CM Biren Singh in the previous government, will take charge of the Medical, Health & Family Welfare, and Publicity & Information departments, as per the notification.

Letpao Haokip was allotted the Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, and Horticulture & Soil Conservation departments. In the previous government, Haokip served as minister for Youth Affairs and Sports. He got elected for the first timemin 2017 on the National People’s Party ticket, but later joined the ruling BJP. 

Leishangthem Susindro Meitei has been given charge of departments of Public Health Engineering and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, as per the notification.

Heikham Dingo Singh, MLA from Sekmai, is allocated three portfolios, including Social Welfare, Skill, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship, and Fisheries departments.

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) party’s Khashim Vashum has got the departments of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and Transport.
