Kohima: After Scrutiny of the Nomination Papers of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate, H. Chuba Chang was declared elected unopposed to the Noksen (ST) Assembly Constituency, the last date for withdrawal of candidature for the by polls was yesterday and the by-election was scheduled on April 17 next.
Nagaland Election office sources said that NDPP candidate and the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance’s (PDA) consensus candidate H Chuba Chang has been declared elected uncontested to fill the casual vacancy caused in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly by the death of Late Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang, who was the Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Justice and Law.
Chang passed away on October 12 last year, as reports received from the Returning Officer in connection with the Noksen by-poll.
A former Minister H Chuba Chang was elected four-times on Congress ticket from the Noksen Assembly Constituency.
As Chuba Chang is elected to Nagaland Assembly, the total strength of the ruling NDPP in the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly rose to 21.
The NDPP’s alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 12 MLAs. The PDA alliance has also support of two Independent MLAs and the opposition Naga People’s Front has 25 MLAs.
