Chandigarh Press Club condemns blocking of journos’ Twitter accounts

Chandigarh:Chandigarh Press Club has condemned the blocking of Twitter accounts of many journalists, commentators, media organisations including independent verticals related to Punjab amid police crackdown on Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal and his associates.

In a statement issued on Tuesday late evening, CPC president Saurabh Duggaal said that the accounts were ‘withheld’ in India based on a government request.

The statement referring BBC’s Punjabi News Service twitter account blocking and restoring after a few hours on Tuesday, said that the status of other Twitter accounts of journalists and media verticals that were withheld earlier is still under suspension.

CPC termed it as an attaack on freedom of press and against free speech.
CPC demanded that the accounts of journos and media verticals should be restored, and the government agencies should stop harassing the journalists.
