Chandel celebrates 78th I-Day with enthusiasm & patriotism

Chandel: The 78th Independence Day was on Thursday celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the Chandel District Headquarters. The main event took place at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School ground in Japhou, Chandel.

Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar, IAS, presided over the celebration as the Chief Guest. He hoisted the National Flag, followed by the Rashtriya Salute, as the National Anthem was performed by the 21st Assam Rifles band. The event was attended by administrative officers, government officials, village leaders, students, and the general public. The Chief Guest took the salute from the parade contingents, led by Parade Commander A. Mothil, Subedar of the 8th Manipur Rifles, and inspected the march past.

In his address, DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar extended warm Independence Day greetings to the gathering, reminding them of the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers, whose martyrdom has enabled India to enjoy its freedom today.

The Deputy Commissioner also commended the unwavering dedication of various departments, particularly ASHAs, GNMs, Anganwadi workers, educational institutions, and veterinary staff, in advancing the district’s development. He emphasized the importance of vigilance in monitoring the ILP system to prevent illegal influxes and called on citizens to reject any form of illegal land encroachment.

Highlighting the district’s educational progress, the DC proudly noted the emergence of IITians from Chandel, symbolizing significant development in the field of education. He urged parents and students to ensure Permanent Enrolment Number (PEN) registration, which has now become mandatory for all students.

Rajkumar appealed to all sectors of society to unite and work collaboratively toward achieving common goals and advancing to greater heights.

The celebration featured a march past by 23 contingents, the distribution of meritorious awards to 82 individuals from various departments, and the presentation of red blankets to village chiefs. The 21st Assam Rifles band also delivered an impressive performance.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shivanand Surve, IPS, SP Chandel; S. Somorjit, IPS, Commandant of the 8th Manipur Rifles; and other senior officials from BSF, Assam Rifles, and the district administration. Village chiefs, public leaders, representatives of CSOs, teachers, students, and locals also joined the celebration.

The afternoon session featured a friendly football match between four teams, adding a touch of camaraderie to the Independence Day festivities.
