Gangtok: Sikkim Democratic Front Chelli Morcha (Women Front) on Sunday expressed serious concern over the “communal violence” in Manipur,
“We demand stringent action against the guilty. The President of India, Prime Minister and Home Minister are requested to mete out justice to the aggrieved,” Chelli Morcha said in a statement.
It claimed apart from the huge loss of lives, many people’s lives have been destablised, and hundreds of residential houses, vehicles and government buildings have been damaged.
“The most affected are the women in Manipur. The incident of violation of the modesty of two women…. which came to light on social media, to begin with, has put entire humanity to shame.
“They were paraded allegedly naked through the street and raped. with the father and brothers of one of them losing their life in the violence, while their mothers had to flee for safety,’ said SDF Chelli Morcha.
According to a communiqué circulated by Kavita Subba, on behalf of the Morcha, “all such citizens who are the victims of communal violence, including the mothers, particularly 2 women and all other victims of Manipur, (who have been) forced to leave their houses, must be accorded justice”.
Manipur has been on the boil for over two and a half months following ethnic clashes.
