Agartala: A BJP delegation led by Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte demanding action against those who defaced posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in different parts of the state.
Nath alleged that a section of civil service officers engaged in the conduct of the election intentionally covered Modi’s pictures by putting ink on them even on private properties, which according to him, was a criminal offence.
The party smelled a rat that a part of the administration was working for the opposition parties. He, however, claimed the allegations and complaints that the opposition political parties filed with the CEO based on which the ECI took some action were completely baseless.
Referring to the scuffle between Congress and BJP in Majlishpur assembly Constituency in Jirania following which ECI suspended three police officers and appointed three special observers, the minister alleged Congress was responsible for the incident and they had exaggerated the matter to earn sympathy.
The motorbike rally of Congress was held without permission from the police which led to a law-and-order crisis. The opposition parties have been instigating violence to tarnish the image of the BJP and the government as well, he said.
