Agartala: Tension continues in Jampuijala under Takarjala police station of Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Tuesday following repeated violence between the supporters of the ruling BJP and opposition TIPRA Motha on Monday, which left as many as 13 people from both parties, including three policemen, injured.
The Sub Divisional Police Officer of Jampuijala, Jayanta Karmakar, said additional force has been deployed in the area to prevent fresh violence and cease the tension. However, police launched a search against the accused, who have so far been identified as triggering unprovoked attacks on police and civilians.
However, the BJP alleged that an armed group of Motha cadres carried out a repeat attack in the house of senior BJP leader and former Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma on Monday night, accusing him of providing lunch to BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee and State Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noiatia at his house.
“The miscreants ransacked the house and urinated on the cocked food in the kitchen, which is an uncivilised act from any party supporters,” Bhattacharjee alleged, adding that a group of BJP and IPFT leaders, including Bhattacharjee, had gone to a scheduled meeting of the ruling alliance at Jampuijala Bukhari community hall, and when the meeting was over, they resorted to violent attacks on BJP supporters.
When the police tried to intervene, Officer-in-Charge Rathin Debbarma of the Takarjala Police Station and Sub-Inspector Manoranjan Namsudra, along with a TSR jawan, were injured along with BJP workers. In the counterattack by the BJP, three Motha cadres have also sustained injuries, which spread tension across Jampuijala.
