Imphal: Negatiing the Congress’ allegations that the five years of BJP rule in Manipur was a period of “darkness”, state BJP President A Sharda on Sunday said his party has, on the contrary, led the state from “darkness to light”, and bridged the gulf between the government and the people by taking up programs where the public can directly approach the Chief Minister.

The BJP government took up various welfare projects and brought the administration to the doorstep of the people. No government took up any welfare projects earlier before the formation of the BJP government in 2017,” Sharda said while addressing an election meeting here.

She said the people must have seen the differences between the BJP and Congress rule. “Chief Minister N Biren Singh closed the distance between the people and the government by starting programmes where the public can directly approach the Chief Minister,” Sharda said.

The Manipur BJP chief said the BJP-led government started the “Go to village” campaigns so that people who could not afford to go to government offices get all facilities at their doorsteps. People used to spend lots of money to go to government offices, and so the project was launched, she said. She said the government ensured that the administration came directly to the people.

Congress has released a booklet describing the five years of BJP rule in Manipur as a period of “darkness”. Congress alleged that the “BJP Vision Document 2017” was not fulfilled. BJP had assured it would, if voted to power, provide job opportunities to every household, give piped drinking water to every household, connect every district with all-weather four lane roads , give free education to women till graduation but none of it were fulfilled, the booklet claimed.
