Agartala: A day before his crucial visit to Tripura, BJP National President J P Nadda appointed veteran saffron leader Rajib Bhattacharjee as state president for Tripura on Thursday.
The incumbent party president Dr Manik Saha became Chief Minister three months ago, and the change of the party’s top post has been necessitated.
Veteran BJP leader and Minister for Fire Service Ram Prasad Pal, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and union minister Pratima Bhoumik became the main aspirants for the state president.
The Chief Minister Dr Saha and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma had a meeting with NEDA Chairman and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the top leaders of BJP in Guwahati on Wednesday over the organizational issue and appointment of the new president of the state committee.
There is a mixed reaction to the appointment of Bhattacharjee. A section of aspirants for the post appeared to be unhappy while loyalists of Biplab Deb questioned the future of Deb, as he has no space in the party now.
