Biswajit, Satyabrata extend greetings on ‘Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba’

“Cheiraoba” or New Year of Meitei community began during the reign of King Maliya Fambalcha (1359 BC-1329 BC) who started the Meitei Calendar year when he ascended the throne at his personal age of 25.

Imphal: Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Friday extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of ‘Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba’, which is observed on the first day of the Manipuri Lunar Month of Sajibu, that falls on 2nd April this year.

In a message, Biswajit said Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba symbolises the advent of a New Year and is a unique festival celebrated by every household with great enthusiasm in the state.

Manipur Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, in his message, said, “Sajibu Nongma Panba” or “Cheiraoba” or New Year of Meitei community began during the reign of King Maliya Fambalcha (1359 BC-1329 BC) who started the Meitei Calendar year when he ascended the throne at his personal age of 25. 

The day is observed with piousness and serenity both at physical and mental level followed by preparing traditional cuisine and making a ritual offering to the Lord of Guardian of the land, the Speaker contended.
