New Delhi: Amid allegation of indirectly supporting to Kuki-Zo militants in the current violent ethnic conflict in Manipur, chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh Wednesday reprimanded his Mizoram counterpart, Zoramthanga, for his “barbaric speech”, and further warned that his unsolicited action would have consequences in future.
“Manipur had been a nation of over 2000 years which would withstand many storms (attacks) from neighbouring countries including China, Burma (Myanmar) and any other nations. Don’t forget this,” Biren stated this while participating in the Kargil Vijay Dewas here on Thursday.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every 26 July in India, to observe India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for ousting Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil district in Ladakh in 1999.
Biren said he had no problem with holding a peace rally for the affected people during the violence, but abusing someone who is a chief minister of a state by Zoramthanga is unacceptable. Not only was it barbaric, it also will have consequences in future, the Chief Minister said.
The chief minister said he and all his fellow citizens are ready to sacrifice and defend the state by utilizing all in his power and resources even if they had a single drop of blood in their bodies.
Continuing that the State Government would strongly stand against the demand for Separate Administration, Biren stated that the current tension happening in the State is between the Government and the elements who want to disturb the peaceful co-existence in the State.
He mentioned that tension erupted as the State Government started acting against drug cartels, adding that the State Government is not against the Kuki community who had been residing together in the State since a long time.
