Biren mourns death of ex-MLA Henry Paotei

In his demise, Manipur has lost a true and able leader, whose contributions would be remembered forever, said the Chief Minister

Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh Tuesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former Member of state Legislative Assembly (MLA) Henry Paotei.

Born on 1sl March, 1960 at Purul Atongba Village of Senapati District, Henry Paotei was a committed leader, who had served the people of the State in different capacities.

He began his career as a student leader in late 1970s. After briefly serving as a Head Master in a Government School, he later joined the Treasury and Accounts Administrative Department (Finance), Government of Manipur in 1982. During his service period, he had also served as the President of JAC of AMTUC & AMGEO, Senapati Branch from 1987 to 1990.

After resigning from Government service in 1994, he launched his own newspaper, ‘The Hills Time’ and worked as an Editor from 1997 to 2001. He joined politics in 1995 and was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly from Karong AC in 2002. Henry Paotei continued working for downtrodden and needy people till his last breath.

“In his demise, Manipur has lost a true and able leader, whose contributions would be remembered forever. The void he had left would be hard to fill up, said the Chief Minister in his condolence message.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and share their grief. May his soul rest in peace,” Biren added.
