Avalanche in Arunachal’s Kameng sector: 7 Army personnel stuck under snow

Itanagar: Seven Indian Army personnel are reported to have been stuck after being hit by an avalanche in the high altitude area of Kameng sector in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, the Defence sources said on Monday.

The seven Army men were part of a patrolling team when the avalanche struck them on Sunday, Tezpur-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Harsh Vardhan Pande said. Search and rescue operations are currently underway. Specialised teams have been airlifted to assist in rescue operations, he said. T

he area has been witnessing inclement weather with heavy snowfall for the last few days, Lt Col Pande said. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu prayed for the safety of the Army men hit by the avalanche and for their successful rescue operation.

Taking to Twitter, Khandu said, “Praying for the safety of Army personnel hit by the avalanche in Arunachal, and hope that they be rescued safely as early as possible.”

“Indian Army has always stood by us whenever in difficulties. We earnestly pray that no harm comes to our brave Jawans,” Khandu tweeted.
