Attacks on BJP leaders continue in Manipur

Imphal: Thousands of people, mostly women, came out in the streets and marched towards the residence of Union Minister of State for Education Dr R K Ranjan here on Thursday night, demanding early resolution of the conflict between two ethnic groups in Manipur. 

They were forced back by a strong team of Manipur Police and security personnel.

Earlier the residence of Govindas Konthoujam Minister Works was attacked by women at Bishenpur district.

Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed on Friday till noon in most parts of the state. Security was beefed up around the residences of BJP leaders. Those who shouted slogans against the BJP leaders questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when over 70 people were killed, thousands of houses burnt, over a lakh people displaced after clashes which began on May 3 last in the state. 

Those who took part in the protest said BJP leaders came frequently prior to the state elections however the BJP both in the centre and the state were least concerned about the hardship faced by the people.

Most of the BJP ministers, MLAs have gone to New Delhi and on Thursday to Guwahati to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 

Over 4000 people were still in various relief camps scattered over all parts of the state and the Imphal to Mao highway has been blocked by people at Kangpokpi district. 

The Internet remained suspended since May 3 last.
