Imphal: In a poignant tribute to the undying spirit of valour, Assam Rifles observed the solemn anniversaries of two distinguished martyrs today. Across the Northeast, the Force gathered to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by its soldiers, reinforcing the eternal bond between the present generation of sentinels and the heroes of the past who shaped the legacy of this proud Force.

On 11 June 1956, Sub (Late) Lalruala Lushai made the supreme sacrifice while defending the sovereignty of the nation during the Chinese aggression at Longju in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Displaying exceptional grit, unwavering resolve and loyalty, he stood his ground against overwhelming odds, epitomising the highest traditions of the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army. Today, at the Battalion Quarter Guard, a total of 224 personnel gathered to pay homage, acknowledging a legacy of steadfast devotion that continues to inspire soldiers in the face of adversity.

Simultaneously, at Joupi in the Chandel district of Manipur, the Force honoured Rifleman (GD) (Late) Mukesh, who laid down his life while battling militants at Singjamei in the Imphal West district on 11 June 1998. His sacrifice during the heat of an encounter reflects the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles in ensuring the nation’s security. Troops observed a moment of silence to commemorate his indomitable spirit, recalling how his extraordinary courage remains etched in the proud history of the Force.

These ceremonies were profound affirmations of the ethos of the Force. By honouring these bravehearts, the Assam Rifles reaffirms its enduring commitment to the martyrs who placed the nation above self.
