Imphal: In a resolute and concerted effort to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and foster a healthier, drug-free society, a dedicated team of 15 personnel from Assam Rifles, in close coordination with the United Meitei Pangal Youth Organisation (UMPYO), successfully conducted a comprehensive Drug Awareness Programme at Irong Chesaba Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district on Monday, 18 May 2026. This vital campaign targeted the grassroots community with the primary objective of educating local residents, particularly vulnerable youth, regarding the devastating physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse.
The interactive event witnessed enthusiastic and widespread participation from the locality, bringing together inquisitive students, concerned women and venerable community elders. Active representatives from UMPYO played a pivotal role in effectively mobilising the community and sensitising young minds against the perilous traps of addiction. During the event, resource persons highlighted the destructive impact of substance dependency on individuals, families and the societal fabric at large. To reinforce this critical message, informative pamphlets and educational awareness materials were systematically distributed among the attendees. Furthermore, the initiative proactively motivated community members to report active drug peddlers and champion the rehabilitation of affected individuals. Concluding the session, local leaders, UMPYO office bearers and residents expressed immense gratitude to the organising team, pledging their absolute cooperation to sustain this vital societal crusade.
