Itanagar: The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles on Friday conducted a security coordination meeting at its Battalion Headquarters at Khonsa, the HQs of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh.
Colonel Aman Ahluwalia, Commandant of AR’s Khonsa Battalion, who chaired the meeting, apprised the gathering about the general situation in the insurgency-infested Tirap district.
“The concerns of the business community regarding unlawful activities of the insurgents including extortion, kidnapping, insurgent recruitment & other nefarious activities were addressed. The attendees were made to understand the apparatus in place to provide them holistic security by the security forces,” a release from the AR said.
Underlining the importance of a successful and progressive community in providing employment opportunities to locals to wean them away from the vices plaguing the society, Col Ahluwalia urged the business owners not to support the militant groups or their illegal activities, especially by giving into their extortion demands.
All the attendees, including shopkeepers, business owners, transport and taxi owners and other locals, have expressed their unity against insurgency, extortion and abduction, and promised their allegiance to the security forces in Tirap district.
Officials from Tirap Police were also present in the meeting, the release added.
