 Imphal: On December 25, 2023, Assam Rifles encountered and thwarted an illegal smuggling attempt along the Indo-Myanmar border. The ambush, executed with strategic precision targeted three vehicles trespassing into Indian Territory near the Ch Tengnoupal village, Tengnoupal District at KM 20 milestone.

Upon challenge, all drivers and co-drivers of the Myanmar border fled, evading capture.

A thorough search of the area yielded a significant discovery – the vehicles were laden with a substantial cargo of Areca nuts, a commodity highly valued in the international market.

A total of 231 sacks, approximately 18,480 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 83.16 lakh were seized. The authorities are coordinating with the Customs Department, Moreh, for further necessary actions, according to a press note from the PRO HQ IGAR(S).
