Assam Rifles honours brave hearts at Mantripukhri

Imphal: Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony for No G/411732K Rfn/GD (Late) Dinesh Prasad, SM of 4 Assam Rifles who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. He demonstrated remarkable bravery and dedication during Operation Jaibjarang. 

The party corroborated the available intelligence and laid ambush on the night of May 1, 1994, near Kultuk, Indo-Myanmar border. At approximately 1200 noon on May 2, 1994, the movement of insurgents was detected and a fight started. During the fire exchange Rfn/GD (Late) Dinesh Prasad, SM sustained severe bullet injuries and succumbed to his injuries at 1245 PM on May 2, 1994. 

In this operation, nine insurgents of NSCN (IM) were apprehended and 1 kg of explosive with fuse and detonator was recovered. Rfn/ GD (Late) Dinesh Prasad, SM was awarded the Sena Medal (Posthumous) for his gallant action. 

Assam Rifles honoured the brave heart by paying homage at the War Memorial for his supreme sacrifice for the cause of the Nation disregarding his safety. The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying followed by a motivational speech delivered to all ranks narrating the story of the brave heart in the service of the nation. 

Two officers, six Junior Commissioned Officers and 30 Other Ranks of Assam Rifles paid tribute by laying wreath and according Guard of Honour, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
