Imphal: Due to the prevailing security challenges in Manipur, residents of remote villages in the state have been facing significant concerns regarding access to education, sports, and the safety and security of their communities.

In response to these pressing issues, a Joint Security Meet cum interaction programme was organized at Songdo village in Churachandpur District on Wednesday. This key event brought together village authorities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from 15 remote villages, and Company commanders from Assam Rifles, Army, BSF, and CRPF.

During the programme, Assam Rifles emphasized the importance of addressing security challenges and fostering cooperation with security forces. They commended the public’s support in their efforts to maintain peace and stability, redirecting youth towards education, sports, and societal development, and promoting resilience amidst the tense security situation in Manipur.

In recent days, the Company Commanders in the Area have worked closely with village authorities, Village Councils (VCs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to promote peace and cooperation with security forces in the Area of Responsibility (AOR). Furthermore, steps are being taken to ensure the efficient operation of Gothol School, and plans are underway for an inter-village football tournament scheduled for 26th February.

This initiative aims to redirect the focus of youth away from violence towards participating in sports activities, thereby nurturing a culture of peace and unity within the communities, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S)..
