Assam Rifles helps avert major forest fire in Chandel district

The fire, which began when villagers attempted to clear a forested slope through controlled burning, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry vegetation.

Imphal: The Assam Rifles averted a major forest fire near Thangbung Minou village, Chandel district on February 18, 2025, preventing potential loss of life and property. 

The fire, which began when villagers attempted to clear a forested slope through controlled burning, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry vegetation. The fire had 

spread dangerously close to a commercial communication tower and nearby houses. Troops of Assam Rifles on duty at Chandel noticed thick smoke and immediately mobilized a firefighting team. 

Joining hands with the local Police and civilians together they contained the blaze.  Assam Rifles due to its swift response and speedy action saved precious lives.
