Imphal: Assam Rifles foils cross-border smuggling of contraband in Kamjong District on Monday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of Areca nuts in the general area of Kangpat Centre, a search operation was launched. The column intercepted two Trucks illegally carrying Arecanuts without valid documents, meant for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 240 bags (approx weight 19.2 tons) of betel nuts, valued at Rs. 2.304 Crore was seized and subsequently handed over to the Forest Beat Officer, Kamjong District, said a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
