Thoubal: In alignment with the global observance of World Organ Donation Day in August, Assam Rifles conducted a vital awareness session on organ donation for its troops at Phundrei, Thoubal District, Manipur, on 21 August 2026. The initiative was aimed at sensitising personnel about the vital importance of organ donation and encouraging voluntary pledging to contribute towards saving human lives. Conducted by the Medical Officer of Assam Rifles, the session saw active participation from a combined total of more than 50 personnel, including several officials.
The session provided comprehensive information on diverse aspects of organ donation, including the significance of donating, medical conditions requiring organ transplantation, organs and tissues that can be donated, eligibility and exclusion criteria, legal provisions and regulatory authorities. Furthermore, the troops were briefed on the pivotal role of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the concept of a Green Corridor for expeditious transportation of donated organs and the online registration process through the authorised NOTTO portal. All queries and concerns raised by the personnel were effectively answered by the Medical Officer. Demonstrating the immediate success and positive outcome of this initiative, an Assam Rifles personnel expressed his willingness to pledge his organs for donation through the NOTTO portal, exemplifying a profound commitment to saving lives and serving humanity
