Imphal: As part of the ongoing nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and the Government of India’s year-long commemoration marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, Assam Rifles conducted comprehensive civic awareness and community outreach programmes in Thoubal and Chandel districts of Manipur.
The outreach initiative aligns with the Union Ministry of Culture’s national drive to reconnect citizens—especially youth and remote communities—with the revolutionary spirit of India’s National Song. Designed to promote national integration, patriotism, and awareness of India’s freedom struggle, the activities highlighted the historical role of Vande Mataram as a unifying battle cry during the independence movement and its enduring legacy as an emblem of devotion to the motherland.
At Company Operating Base (COB) Thoubal and Thoubal Mela ground in Thoubal District, a 34-member Assam Rifles contingent engaged 90 local students and civilians through interactive sessions, visual poster presentations and the distribution of the National Flag (Tiranga), encouraging residents to display the Tricolour as a symbol of unity and responsible citizenship.
Simultaneously, at Sehlon village in the border region of Chandel District on 07 August 2026, Assam Rifles commemorated the 150th anniversary milestone with 82 local villagers, including children and elders. The event featured a collective rendition of Vande Mataram by troops and residents, distribution of commemorative posters and tricolour face-painting for children.
By connecting rural, remote as well as border populations to national commemorative themes, Assam Rifles continues to preserve the nation’s cultural heritage while strengthening civil-military trust across the North East.
