Umiam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that crime rate in the state has come down significantly for the zero-tolerance policy adopted by the police force during his regime.

However, he said that along with zero tolerance against criminals simultaneously should also have a human caring heart for the innocent citizens of the state. Addressing a passing put parade at North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) he exhorted the new cadets to work with full vigour and spontaneity for a crime-free society.

Sarma said that the crime rate in the state has decreased by more than 35 in the first three months of 2022 compared to the previous year.

The largest-ever batch of 578 trainee officers belonging to the Assam police, passed out of the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) on Wednesday after the successful completion of the 50th batch of basic courses.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the passing off the parade and commissioned these officers into active policing. Deepak Kumar, Director, NEPA administered oath to the trainees.

Chief Minister Sarma in his address congratulated the trainee officers and urged them to contribute to nation-building through active policing. Sarma also distributed the trophies and medals awarded to the trainees for their individual performance.

All the officers who passed out today were trained on a well-researched module approved by the Bureau of Police Research and Development. As part of the outdoor training, the trainees underwent six days of tactics and jungle camps where they carried out cordon and search operations.
