Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated a two-day workshop on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Assam, emphasizing the need to improve university rankings.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarma expressed his desire to see 50% of Assam’s universities ranked within the top 100, as the state aims to become the academic hub of eastern India.

The workshop, organized under the guidance of Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, featured presentations from universities and autonomous colleges.

Sarma assured that the government is committed to implementing the NEP 2020 in higher education and addressing concerns of students and guardians. He suggested that universities create brochures on NEP 2020 in a frequently asked questions (FAQ) format to demystify the policy and clarify the differences between the previous system and the new four-year degree course.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of joining the entrance examination, which is set to commence next year.

By actively focusing on improving university rankings and implementing NEP 2020, Assam aims to enhance its reputation as a leading educational destination in the region.
