Guwahati: BJP President J P Nadda Tuesday said that the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which has been passed by the Parliament will be implemented “in letter and spirit”.

Nadda’s comments come close on the heels of Amit Shah’s announcement in West Bengal, that CAA will be implemented in the state.

In Assam BJP has been maintaining eerie silence over the CAA.

Notably, CAA did not find any mention in the BJP manifesto released today by Nadda for poll bound Assam.

Countering Congress claim that will repeal the law, Nadda said the citizenship law is a central legislation and the Congress is fooling the people of Assam.

The CAA seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis excluding Muslims entering India on or before December 31, 2014, from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan after five years of residence here.

Talking about the issue of infiltration, the BJP president said that the party is committed to strengthening and scientific management of the international borders. “Border management is a continuous process and we will continue to improve it,” he said.
