Sivsagar: Three Oil and Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) employees, comprising two Junior Production Assistants and a Junior Engineer (P), were abducted at gunpoint by unknown armed men from a rig site of the plant in Lakwa 30 km from here last night.

The abducted employees, namely MM Gogoi, JTA, Ritul Saikia, JTA and Alokesh Saikia, JEA, were taken by the armed gang in an operational vehicle belonging to ONGC which was later found abandoned in Nimonagarh jungles near the Assam Nagaland border.

FIR has been lodged by the ONGC at Lakwa PS.

ONGCL has been producing oil and natural gas from the field and a vast area in the Sivasagar and Charaideo district since 1960 and had faced similar abductions during the worst phase of ULFA insurgents violence during the nineties and lost a number of high officers of the PSU.

It may be mentioned that the abduction comes close on the heels of kidnapping of two employees of the Quippo Oil and Infrastructure Co, working under IOL from Chunglung district of bordering Arunachal Pradesh and consequent release of them by insurgent outfit ULFA (I).
