Arunachal police make another drug haul

The police also arrested another person in connection with the case, raising the total number of arrests to two.

Itanagar: Couple of days after busting the largest ever illegal drug trade by seizing 526 kg cannabis, the Arunachal Pradesh Police Sunday made another drug haul by recovering 195.67 kg marijuana in the same case raising the total count to 721 kg, the market value of which stands at Rs 72 lakh, a senior police officer said on Monday.

The police also arrested another person in connection with the case, raising the total number of arrests to two. The police had earlier arrested a lady drug peddler, Tadar Kampung (35), following the registration of a case at the Naharlagun PS.

Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said, based on interrogation of earlier arrested accused, a raid was conducted on June 26 night in which another secret godown of (absconding) accused Tadar Chada and Tadar Kampung was busted by the joint team of Naharlagun and Nirjuli police stations led by Naharlagun SDPO Dekio Gumja, OC Khiksi Yangfo and SI SS Jha with Executive Magistrate Laxmi Dodum.

As per information, the police party reached a godown in Lekhi village near Dikrong river bank, at the kutcha house of one Nabam Paul. During the search, 12 gunny bags full of suspected ganja weighing 195.67 kg were seized and another person was arrested. The alleged accused was identified as Tadar Taksing.

The seized contraband was brought from Mengio, Papum Pare district.

“Further, efforts are being made to apprehend the absconding accused,” the SP said.
