Arunachal: Illegally cultivated cannabis plots destroyed in Bizari village

Itanagar: Around 5 acres of illegally cultivated plots of cannabis were destroyed in a remote village in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, official sources said Friday.

The cannabis destruction drive was carried out in the surrounding areas of Bizari village under Dambuk sub-division of the district by a joint team of officials from the departments of Tax and Excise, Environment and Forest and the General Administration along with the police personnel. The team was led by Extra Assistant Commissioner of Dambuk, Olom Panggeng.

However, no farmers were arrested nor booked for the illegal cultivation of cannabis, the sources said, adding that the police team prepared for the operation in advance and led it meticulously, destroying and burning the illegally cultivated plots of cannabis.

“Such anti-drug drives are undertaken by the district administration in a bid to curb cannabis and ganja cultivation,” the sources added.
