Arunachal Guv, CM perform ‘asanas’ to mark International Day of Yoga

The duo participated in a yoga session organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) on the lawns of Raj Bhavan, to mark the occasion.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday performed various ‘asanas’ at Raj Bhavan here, on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga.

The duo participated in a yoga session organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) on the lawns of Raj Bhavan, to mark the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, ” Yoga has helped the people in overcoming mental and physical challenges since ancient times and due to Covid-19 pandemic, it has become more relevant.”

He appealed to the people to make yoga practice as part of their lifestyle and defeat Covid-19 pandemic through covid appropriate behaviour and strict protocols.

The Governor expressed hope that the occasion will motivate more and more people to practice yoga.

“The whole world is indebted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for his contribution in getting June 21 recognised as the International Day of Yoga, which has inspired millions of people all over the world to practice yoga-the precious health gift of ancient Indian seers to mankind,” he said.

In his brief address, the CM said, “Health plays a very vital role in life and yoga enhances it. Yoga is helping the people to beat the bad effects of Coronavirus during this Covid pandemic.”

He thanked the PM for spreading yoga practice throughout the world.

The Governor presented a sapling to Khandu as a goodwill gesture on the occasion.

Later, they discussed Covid-19 situation and important issues related to the state.
