Arunachal Governor chairs high-level security meet

The Governor strongly advocated for the development of the border villages and remote areas to secure the country's frontiers in Arunachal Pradesh which, according to him, will arrest the migration of border populace to the urban areas.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday chaired a high-level security meeting with the top brass of security agencies at Raj Bhavan here.

“The high-level meeting discussed about strengthening the security apparatus in the State, particularly in Tirap-Changlang-Longding Region and reinforcing the air defence mechanism in Arunachal Pradesh,” a communiqué from the Raj Bhavan said.

During the meeting, the Governor emphasised on reinforcing the security apparatus in Arunachal Pradesh to facilitate the developmental progress of the State. “For development to take place, a sense of security and peace are prerequisites,” he said and called for concerted effort of all concerned organizations and better coordination amongst security forces.

The Governor further strongly advocated for the development of the border villages and remote areas to secure the country’s frontiers in Arunachal Pradesh which, according to him, will arrest the migration of border populace to the urban areas.

Referring to the insurgency-infested Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region, the Governor stressed on bringing back the ‘misguided’ youth in TCL region to the mainstream and providing a sustainable source of livelihood to them. He also suggested for working out a ‘constructive’ surrender policy.

Participating in the discussion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu called for strengthening the goodwill amongst the civil administration, local population and security forces to expedite the development process in the state. He said that the Armed Forces have been very supportive in the border villages in socio-economic development and education of the locals.

Today’s meeting was attended by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-inC), Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal DK Patnaik, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Army Command, Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and DGP Satish Golcha. State Legislative Assembly Pasang Dorjee Sona, Lt General Ravin Khosla, General Officer Commanding, 4 Corps, and Major General VPS Kaushik, MGGS, Eastern Command, State Government’s Commissioner (Planning) Prashant Lokhande and Commissioner to the Chief Minister, Sonam Chombay were also present in the meeting.
