Army officer killed in Kashmir encounter

"As the forces were zeroing in on the suspected spot, terrorists fired upon them, triggering an encounter," police said.

Jammu: A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Army was killed and a jawan suffered injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Thanamandi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Thursday.

A police officer said a terrorist has also been neutralised in the operation which is still on.

Police sources said exact number of terrorists is not known as the location where the operation is going on has a thick forest area.
The Army officer said that during the operation, a jawan suffered bullet injuries and was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility where he succumbed.

The gunfight broke out early this morning in Karyote Kalas area, where a Cordon and Search Operation was launched on reports of suspicious movement.
