AR foils cross border smuggling near Kwatha

Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling near Kwatha village in Tengnoupal district on January 22. 

During a border domination patrol, troops of Assam Rifles uncovered a large number of packages concealed in thick foliage in the forest. On thorough search of the packages, illegal goods including betel nuts, liquor, cigarettes and footwear items were recovered. 

The smuggled items are assessed to be of worth Rs 5.29 Lakh. 

The recovered contraband items were handed over to Customs Department, Moreh.

On the other hand, the Sehlon Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (S) conducted a medical camp at Sehlon village, Chandel district on January 21 as part of the efforts of Assam Rifles to reach out a helping hand to the local population and assist them. 

The medical camp was organised to assist the villagers who have no access to basic healthcare services. Medical team from Assam Rifles carried out the health checkup of 257 villagers in Sehlon and neighboring villages to assess their health status. 

The medical camp culminated with distribution of essential medicines to villagers, said a press note from PRO IGAR(S).
