Islamabad: The senior diplomats from the United States, China, Pakistan and Russia will be attending the Troika Plus meeting on November 11 to discuss the situation in Kabul.

The meeting will be also be attended by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who will be reaching Islamabad on Wednesday, as part of his three-day visit to Pakistan.

This is the first full-fledged meeting of the Troika Plus since the collapse of the civilian government in Afghanistan.

Dawn quoted a Pakistani diplomatic official saying, “Troika Plus at SRs (special representatives level) will meet with Muttaqi.

“Troika Plus has become an important forum for engagement with Afghan authorities. It will express support for an inclusive government, discuss ways to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as well as the protection of human rights, particularly women’s rights,” he said.

In October, a Troika meeting was held in Moscow wherein delegations from Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan participated. The United States did not attend citing “logistics”.

According to Dawn, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had held detailed discussions with Muttaqi during his visit which laid the foundation of a multi-sectoral engagement between the two countries in the days to come which could usher in an era of enhanced bilateral economic cooperation and people-to-people ties.
