Agartala: All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and top leaders of West Bengal accompanied by the candidates of Bardowali and Agartala by-elections – Sanhita Banerjee and Panna Deb respectively held an impressive roadshow in the city seeking votes.
The colourful roadshow covered about 5 kilometres distance in the city beginning from Gandhighat (Bardowali) and ending at G B Bazar (Agartala) where Banerjee addressed a well-attended gathering. He flayed BJP over under-development, corruption and undemocratic activities in Tripura for the last four years.
“The BJP had to remove Biplab Kumar Deb from Chief Minister’s chair after Trinamool Congress entered into the state and started exposing his corruption, vendetta politics and failure at the national level. The attacks and atrocities on opposition supporters have not yet been stopped even after new Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha was sworn in because BJP party stands on violence and anti-people activities across the country,” Banerjee said.
The BJP has fielded two physicians from two seats in the city but before contesting the election they must answer why health service in Tripura is so poor and people every day fly to Kolkata for a simple treatment. There is no doctor and service in the medical college, he alleged adding that BJP has installed motorbike-borne criminals and strengthened anti-social elements.
“It’s a double Chur (thief) government – BJP leaders and ministers are looting the public fund here on one hand, on the other, another group is looting in Delhi. But none will be arrested; only the people who talk about democracy and against the misrule of the BJP will be prosecuted by the government. They snatched your pocket, so if they offer you money please accept it but vote for Trinamool because in four years BJP looted you,” Abhishek underlined.
In ten months the presence of Trinamool Congress in Tripura has shaken the base of the BJP here. Not only BJP – CPI-M and Congress are also afraid of Mamata Banerjee. In 34 years of rule of communism, five years of Congress and four years of BJP in Tripura had ruined the development of the state and cheated the people. Now the time has come to test Trinamool congress for getting a true sense of development and to flourish the state like West Bengal, he claimed.
“Hundreds of people waved our roadshow from the roadside, shops, markets and buildings, which gave a clear indication that Trinamool will be their first preference in a by-election. The result of the by-poll will be the beginning of the formal downfall of BJP in Tripura and in 2023 the people will chase them away and establish Mamata Banerjee’s government here,” Banerjee hoped.
He alleged the party which claimed to be the biggest political formation in the world is so fragile; that they can’t stand with our leaders. From the first day of my arrival in Tripura, BJP cadres attacked me and destroyed my vehicles, subsequently whoever from TMC came faced the attack and false cases of BJP government here.
“A few hours ahead of my departure to Agartala, CBI served notice to my wife. The CBI chose this day for interrogation because they wanted to prevent me from coming. But no force can stop us. This is not one and the first. All the investigating agencies were mobilised against me and my party leaders but can’t stop TMC from setting up a government,” Abhishek added.
