Imphal: The two-week Multidisciplinary Refresher Course on “Leadership, Academic Administration, and Legal Excellence in Higher Education”, organised by the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Manipur University, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, concluded with a valedictory function at the MIMS Auditorium on Monday.
Held from September 16 to 28, the course brought together faculty members and university officials from Manipur and outside the State. A total of 53 participants, comprising teachers and administrative officers, have attended the refresher course. The programme covered leadership, academic administration, legal issues, communication, mental well-being, financial management, interpersonal relations and emerging technologies in higher education.
Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar, Manipur University; Prof. Laishram Rajendrakumar Singh, Finance Officer; Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh, Director, MMTTC; and Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Programme Coordinator and Director, Manipur Institute of Management Studies, attended the valedictory function as presidium members.
Presenting a brief report of the course, Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei said the success of such training should ultimately be reflected in changes in participants’ outlook, professional interaction and approach to institutional responsibilities. He stressed continuous self-improvement and said the programme had incorporated role plays, group discussions, presentations and case studies alongside academic sessions.
Registrar Prof. M. Premjit Singh said multidisciplinary refresher courses could expose academics and administrators to ideas beyond their specialised fields and help refresh their thinking and professional capabilities.
Finance Officer Prof. Laishram Rajendrakumar Singh highlighted trust and accountability, resourcefulness and teamwork as essential attributes of effective leadership. He urged participants to translate the knowledge gained during the programme into action in their respective institutions.
Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh said the MMTTC had attempted to cover diverse dimensions of academic administration and legal issues within the two-week programme. Responding to participant feedback, he said the Centre would explore specialised programmes on areas such as examination, evaluation and question-setting.
During the feedback session, participants appreciated the multidisciplinary and experiential nature of the course, its range of resource persons and opportunities for interaction among academics and administrators from different institutions. Suggestions were also made for incorporating field activities, examination-related training and greater interaction with practitioners in future programmes.
Certificates were distributed to the participants during the valedictory function. The programme concluded with remarks and a vote of thanks by Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh.
