Imphal: Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, A. Sharda Devi has expressed her deepest condolences over the sudden and tragic demise of renowned guitarist Chongtham Vikram (55), who reportedly died following an alleged assault by six men in Delhi late Sunday night.
Sharda Devi spoke over the phone with the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) and urged the police authorities to take immediate and appropriate legal action against all those responsible for the incident. She further requested that the bereaved family be provided with maximum possible assistance and support from the concerned authorities.
The MP also urged the police to ensure a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation into the incident and requested that periodic updates regarding the progress and status of the case be communicated to the concerned family and stakeholders.
Sharda Devi also spoke with the bereaved family and conveyed her sincere condolences, solidarity and support to them during this extremely difficult period.
Expressing her appreciation for the community’s efforts, she said that the Manipuri diaspora in Delhi-NCR deserves heartfelt appreciation for extending invaluable support to the bereaved family and for coordinating with the concerned authorities in their efforts to ensure justice in the unfortunate incident.
Sharda Devi stated that every effort must be made to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are thoroughly investigated and that justice is delivered in accordance with the law. She also appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and allow the authorities to conduct the investigation without interference.
She conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and admirers of Chongtham Vikram and prayed for strength and courage for the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
