Arunachal Pradesh: Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Unit Quarter Guard in Veng, Churachandpur district, Manipur, on 25 August 2026. The event commemorated the supreme sacrifice of Naik (Late) Madaini Bahadur Chhetri, Rifleman (Late) Bati Anka and Rifleman (Late) Prem Bahadur Chhetri of 5 Assam Rifles.
On 25 August 1959, these bravehearts laid down their lives in the line of duty during an unprovoked Chinese aggression at Longju, located in the Subansiri Division of NEFA, present-day Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh. Demonstrating exemplary courage, resolve, loyalty and comradeship, their heroic act remains etched in the proud history of the force. The ceremony aimed to honour the fallen heroes, rekindle the ethos of selfless service and inspire all ranks to uphold the highest traditions of devotion to duty. The proceedings commenced with wreath laying and a Guard of Honour, followed by a motivational talk emphasizing the valour and sacrifice of the bravehearts. A total of 215 personnel paid homage during the event. The occasion successfully reflected the enduring spirit of Assam Rifles, leaving a lasting impact by reinforcing the values of loyalty and sacrifice across all ranks
