Kamjong: District Administration Kamjong today observed the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat, Kamjong District Headquarters. The day is observed on 14th August annually across the country to honour and remember the millions of people displaced or killed during the violent 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent.
Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung, Superintendent of Police Tholu Rocky, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) H.L. Jain, District Level Officers, senior officers and officials of the district administration attended the observation among others.
Speaking on the occasion, L.N. Kashung stated that the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed to remember the immense hardship and sufferings faced by the people during the partition of India in 1947. The day honours the millions of people who were displaced or killed during the partition period, he added. He continued that the day aims to eliminate social divisions and promote national unity, and strengthen the spirit of oneness.
The Deputy Commissioner also led the other officials in observing a two minutes silence in honour of the people who lost their lives during the partition.
Later, a team of officials led by Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung visited the refugee camp set up at Huimin Thana, a border village at Kamjong District, where refugees who entered from Myanmar side are being kept. He inspected the biometric capturing of the refugees who have entered very recently.
The team including ADC H.L. Jain, Sub-Deputy Collector Asem Manikanta, District Information Officer Ch. Sunni and other officials also visited the Border Pillar 99 along the international border of India and Myanmar.
