135th Patriots’ day observed in Chandel

Chandel: The District Administration, Chandel today observed the 135th Patriots’ Day at the Multi-Purpose Hall, DC Office Complex, Chandel, paying solemn tribute to the patriots and martyrs whose courage and supreme sacrifice during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 in defence of the sovereignty of their motherland.

The observance commenced with the offering of floral tributes to the photographs of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General, led by the Deputy Commissioner, Chandel.

Addressing the gathering, Mamoni Doley, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Chandel, paid homage to Yuvraj Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal, acknowledging their courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice. She said their legacy remains a source of inspiration and carries a continuing message of unity and solidarity.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon all sections of society to uphold these values, strengthen mutual understanding and work collectively towards peace, harmony and progress.

The observance was attended by SP Chandel, ADC, Autonomous District Council, Addl. SP, SDOs, District Level Officers, representatives of civil society organisations and locals.

The programme featured a gun salute by personnel of the 8th Manipur Rifles in honour of the patriots and martyrs.
