Churachandpur: The Run for Unity was successfully organized by Churachandpur District Police today, under the theme “Say No To Drugs, Choose Health, Choose Life, Together For A Safer, Stronger Society”. The 10K Run was flagged off from Forest Gate Traffic Point, Tuibong by Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur in the presence of Gaurav Dogra, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur.
The run started from Forest Gate Traffic Point at Tuibong, proceeded towards Tedim Road via Lanva, Gangpimual, and through Pearsonmun. From there ,the runners took Tipaimukh Road, rejoined Tedim Road and finally culminated at Peace Ground, Tuibong. Around 250 police personnel were deployed along the route for security and traffic management. Water points and token counters were also arranged.
In the male category Md Rahish Khan of Yairipok secured 1st position, followed by Benjamin Seiminthang Baite of Panglian in 2nd and Khulakpam Mustakim, Kwakta in 3rd. In the Female category, Lhingdeikim Kipgen bagged 1st position, Baby Veineiting secured 2nd and Hatneichan Haokip secured 3rd position.
Cash Prizes and participant certificates were distributed at Peace Ground, Tuibong by Gaurav Dogra, IPS, SP Churachandpur, along with other dignitaries. Prizes of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 5,000 were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders respectively. First 200 Finishers were awarded Commemorative Medal with Participation Certificate and Participation Certificates were given to all participants.
More than 3000 individuals participated in the run. Dignitaries and officials from the District Administration, ITBP, Police and local people also took part, reflecting strong community spirit and unity. 80 % the runners were in the aged group of 16 to 23 years. The youngest participant was 12 years and the oldest participant was Telsing Ngamkhokhai, 63 years. Runners joined from Kwakta, Sangaikot, Singngat and other areas of the district.
The Run for Unity aimed to promote individual health, fitness, drug awareness, police-public relations, and to encourage youth for police recruitment. The district public extended full cooperation during the conduct of the event.
