Stop diarrhoea campaign 2026 launched in Kakching

Kakching: The Stop Diarrhoea Campaign – 2026 for Kakching district was launched today at the DC Conference Hall alongside a meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee. The programme was organised by the District Health Society, Kakching, under the supervision of the District Administration, Kakching.

The launch programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Angeline Renita R, IAS. During the meeting, Dr. Th. Shyamananda Singh, MO (in charge) Kakching Khunou and Nodal Officer, Child Health, delivered a presentation outlining the objectives of the campaign along with series of intensified activities planned to prevent diarrhoea and reduce deaths caused by dehydration, particularly among children below the age of five years.

The 2 months long campaign will focus on strengthening awareness and advocacy on diarrhoea prevention and management through inter-convergence of various departments, strengthening service delivery for diarrhoea management, establishing ORS-Zinc corners, and prepositioning of ORS and Zinc by ASHA in households with under-five children. Hygiene and sanitation awareness programmes will also be conducted as part of the campaign.

The primary goal of the campaign is to achieve zero diarrhoeal deaths among children by reducing the incidence of diarrhoea and preventing dehydration through the timely use of ORS and Zinc supplementation. The campaign targets all children below five years of age, their caregivers/mothers for community mobilisation, as well as children suffering from diarrhoea who require treatment.

Health officials informed that approximately 10,700 children under the age of five in Kakching district have been identified as the target beneficiaries. Special attention will be given to reaching underserved, marginalised and vulnerable communities.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Angeline Renita R called upon all stakeholders to discharge their responsibilities with commitment and coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign – 2026 across Kakching district.

The programme was attended by Dr. Thaodem Rajen Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Kakching, along with District-Level Officers from various departments.
