Churachandpur: UNAU DAY 2026, (Day of Siblings with Disabilities) was observed today at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Gospel Centenary Hall, Hebron Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur. The programme was organized by the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI), Pearsonmun Village. The event aimed to recognize the invaluable role of siblings of persons with disabilities and to promote inclusion, understanding, and community support.
Addressing the gethering as Chief Guest, Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur appreciated CCI and all specially-abled children, their siblings and parents for their efforts. He stated that as per the Constitution and recent judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts, the right to dignity and equality must be ensured for all. He said district administration was committed to the welfare, education and empowerment of specially-abled persons through schemes like UDID, scholarships and distribution of assistive aids such as wheelchairs, smart sticks and artificial limbs. He stressed that while government was building social, health and physical infrastructure under Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, awareness remained a challenge and collective responsibility was needed. He assured full support from district administration for any initiative towards inclusion and well-being.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Mr Pausuanlal, Manager (MARC), CCI. Ms Ngaikim and Ms Goungaihlun, Physiotherapists, conducted the proceedings, while Ms Parnei Vaiphei, Special Educator, provided sign language interpretation. The highlight of the programme was the Ginmalsawm Tonsing Award Distribution, conducted by Ms Zabeth Ngailianvung, PO (NCF). Social Inclusion Awardees were also recognized by Mr Paul Rozarlien, PC (Advocacy). Special items were presented by students of The Malsawm Initiative, TMI.
As part of the programme, awards were presented by DC, Seiminthang Lenthang ADC, Churachandpur and Board Chairman, CCI Shri Vanlallian. Ginmalsawm Tonsing Award 2026 was conferred to Mr Thangchonsei Kipgen, Class X, Elcism High School, and Miss Taithangmawi, Special Blind School, Durtlang, Aizawl. Social Inclusion Award 2026 was presented to YPA Bungmual Unit and ECA Mission Department, K. Salbung, Churachandpur.
