Churachandpur: Standing in profound solidarity with the families of those who protect the nation, the Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in Churachandpur district yesterday. The military proceedings were held to pay ultimate tribute to Rifleman (General Duty) Lhunjakai Haokip of 34 Assam Rifles, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 20 June 2026.
The ceremony was conducted with full military honours at the braveheart’s native residence, drawing a large joint gathering of Assam Rifles personnel, local civil dignitaries, village authorities, ex-servicemen and grieving residents who assembled to pay their final respects. Wreaths were laid by civil and military representatives to honour the stellar dedication and selfless service of the soldier, followed by solemn prayers and a moment of silence in remembrance of his valour. Beyond the ceremonial homage, the security forces extended comprehensive assistance to the bereaved family for the execution of the final rites.
This poignant event serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by the armed forces to safeguard national sovereignty. By standing firmly with the next of kin during times of grief, the intervention reinforces an enduring bond of trust and reassures local communities of the force’s unwavering commitment to its veterans and martyrs.
