Imphal: Assam Rifles observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 across various districts of Manipur today. The events were organised in collaboration with local communities under the global theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives”. This special day commemorates the birth anniversary of the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Karl Landsteiner. The main goal of the campaign was to spread awareness about voluntary blood donation, remove common myths and encourage a culture of humanitarian service among the border population.

The initiative covered several remote locations across Kakching, Chandel and Bishnupur districts. Awareness programmes and poster campaigns were held in Chandel district at the border villages of Sehlon, Aibol Joupi and Kovang. Additionally, medical teams set up free healthcare camps in the far-flung villages of Aigejang and Aishi within the Chakpikarong subdivision of Chandel district, where modern healthcare access is highly limited. The massive outreach directly benefited approximately 120 locals during the medical camps, including elderly citizens, women and children. A dedicated team of military medical personnel provided free check-ups, diagnosed common ailments and distributed essential medicines.

Similarly, youth-focused session took place at the Nambol Company Operating Base in Bishnupur district, attracting 20 young people from Maibam and neighbouring areas who were motivated to view blood donation not merely as a medical act, but as a humanitarian service to society. These activities successfully improved local healthcare awareness and strengthened the bond between security forces and residents. The drive concluded with interactive sessions where village elders expressed their gratitude, and the local youth took a collective pledge to voluntarily donate blood and support welfare initiatives in the future.
